Whether you’re installing Windows 8 on your old computer, or are planning to buy a new one that already comes with Windows 8, you’ll quickly notice that something very important is missing: your personal data, settings, and programs that were available on your computer’s former operating system. You could, of course, transfer each of them one by one, and then reinstall them in a tedious process, but there is a much easier way: Migration Kit for Windows 8. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to transfer all your data and programs onto a new operating system or computer. This is not only easier and less time-consuming, it’s also much more secure because as part of the Migration Kit for Windows 8, you’ll also be getting the multiple award-winning O&O DiskImage. O&O DiskImage will create a complete image of your system prior to migration, so that your familiar IT environment will be available to you whenever you need it.
Migration Kit for Windows 8 is the perfect solution for getting to Windows 8 the easiest way: no matter whether you’re upgrading from Windows XP or Vista, are looking to migrate data, settings, and programs from an old computer onto a new one, or are planning the Windows 8 migration on an existing computer.
* Windows 8 only supports In-Place migrations from identical editions (e.g. from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 8 Home). Both must be in the same language and both either 32 or 64-Bit. Migration between different editions is not supported (e.g. from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 8 Professional). The Migration Kit, however, supports a whole range of migration scenarios.
Migration Kit for Windows 8 – the quickest way to the new Windows
See how easy it is to migrate from Windows Vista or XP to the new Windows 8! The Migration Kit for Windows 8 is the perfect and only tool that provides you with a quick and economical way to switch over to the new Windows 8!
Migrating to Windows 8 can be difficult. The in-place upgrade from Microsoft will give you the option of changing from Windows Vista to Windows 8 without losing your user defined settings, data, and applications, but it comes with a number of provisions. Your old system and Windows 8 have to have the same bit version (32 or 64). Especially tricky is the requirement that an upgrade to a particular edition of Windows 8 can only be done from a few selected Windows Vista Editions. The in-place upgrade from Windows Vista Home Premium, for example, to Windows 8 Professional is just not possible. Windows XP users have it even more difficult: Microsoft offers them no technical possibility to upgrade from a Windows XP installation to Windows 8. A Windows XP user is legally entitled to an upgrade when purchasing a Windows 8 license, but he or she will not be able to transfer any settings, programs, or data (with Clean Install).
The only solution: Migration Kit for Windows 8
Migration Kit for Windows 8 is the result of a collaboration between O&O Software GmbH and Laplink Software Inc. The main components of Migration Kit for Windows 8 are O&O DiskImage and Laplink PCmover. O&O DiskImage provides for an imaging of all data prior to the migration as well as for periodic imaging of the new system. Laplink PCmover has the job of moving applications, games, settings, and data to Windows 8.
Everything for the migration
Migration Kit for Windows 8 contains everything that’s needed to make migration as easy as possible. The clearly designed wizard guides you step by step through the migration process from Windows XP/Vista to Windows 8. O&O DiskImage and Laplink PCmover are able to image and migrate up to three systems. The migrations can occur on the same as well as between two different computers.
Steps in operating system migration (migration steps)
A migration to a new operating system occurs in a series of steps: data, settings, and applications/games migration. If you’re only interested in taking personal data (e.g., office documents, photos, videos, etc), this can be done using imaging programs such as O&O DiskImage. The migration of settings from the old operating system using Easy Transfer, a component of Microsoft Windows, can be accomplished to only a limited extent. A complete transfer of user accounts and personal settings is only possible with the Migration Kit for Windows 8. Laplink Pcmover, the program contained in the Kit, carries out the last phase of migration: migration of all applications and games*.
Migration on the same or between two different computers
Migration Kit for Windows 8 was designed for users wanting to install the new Windows 8 on his old computer as well as for the customer purchasing a new computer with Windows 8, and who wants to transfer onto it data, applications, and settings from the old one. The Migration Kit for Windows 8 supports all variations of the migration within one or between two systems, and of course, the migration from Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 8 Beta/RC to the final version of Windows 8. The migration from 32 to 64-bit systems is also possible using the Kit.
* For technical reasons, the migration of security products (Antivirus, Firewall etc.) is not possible. These products must be reinstalled once the migration to Windows 8 has been completed. System Requirements
Migration Kit for Windows 8 is a bundle consisting of the products O&O DiskImage from O&O Software GmbH, and PCmover from Laplink Inc. For this reason, please note the respective requirements of each product included in the Migration Kit for Windows 8.
