The graphics file formats supported are GIF, JPG, BMP (Windows bitmap files) and PNG (Portable Network Graphics). This program is especially useful for the optimization (appearance vs size) of JPG images.
This software allows you to do the following: • Convert a single image file to all other supported formats except for GIF (e.g., JPG to PNG and BMP; or GIF to PNG, BMP and JPG). • Convert a non-JPG image file to a set of JPGs over a range of quality/compression values. • Optimize JPG files for size. • Batch convert a set of any number of image files from one format to any other except GIF. • Batch convert a set of any number of JPG images to JPG images with a specified quality/compression value.
You can save an often-used configuration (the name and location of the folders for the input and output images) in a file (with .sta extension), and later restore it, using the usual Windows open/save dialog box. This is useful if you perform conversions often using the same input and output folders.
Note that the extension of a graphics file to be converted must be correct, because the file format used in conversion is taken from the file extension (so .jpeg files must be renamed as .jpg files). If a PNG file incorrectly has a .jpg extension (this has been known to happen) then an error will be reported.
Note also that this program cannot read .bmp files which are compressed (via run-length-encoding). If you don't know whether or not your .bmp files are compressed then try converting one of them with the trial version of this software.
