An eBook (e-Book, electronic book) is an ideal solution when you wish to create electronic documents of all kinds. Do you ever need to create any of the following: • Books of any kind • Training materials • Manuals • Special reports • Electronic newsletters • Tutorials • Polls and surveys • Presentations • Column / article archives • Instruction and training • Summaries and abstracts • Single-file websites • Help files • Courses
EBooks are portable, self-contained, and self-executing. EBook software allows you to compile your eBooks from web pages and other documents.
How does it work?
EBooks can be created in a variety of ways. The simplest and fastest way to create one is to:
Structure and author your eBook as a set of web pages using JavaScript Editor, Dreamweaver, Front Page, or some other HTML editor, and Convert your pages (and other resources) into an eEbook.
If you do not already have a HTML editor in place, JavaScript Editor is highly recommended, because it allows you to:
• Create web pages visually (no prior experience needed) using point-and-click, and • Switch to code to easily add JavaScript (no prior experience needed, step-by-step tutorial included) and make your pages live, interactive and exciting, validate forms, etc. • How do you know which eBook compiler • is right for you
Have you used an eBook generator before? There is no shortage of eBook software on the market. Unfortunately, very few are free from any of the following problems:
• EBook "reader": often your customers are required to install special "reader" software to be able to read the eBooks you create. This introduces extra steps for the reader and adds an unnecessary level of complexity. • About box: do you find it annoying when authors of eBook compilers use your eBooks as a marketing vehicle for their own eBook creator? To this aim, they leave you no space in the "About" box at all, providing the information about their eBook builder instead of the eBook you wrote. • Limitations: many eBook builders have limitations regarding the file formats, technologies and/or extensions you can use. This can be a problem if a technology important for your eBook is not supported. • Complexity: if you need to fill several pages of options and settings before getting a chance to build your eBook, it is most likely not worth it. • Compatibility: it is a major problem if your eBook software does not support XP service pack 1 or 2, or if it only runs on an XP machine, because this means cutting off a big part of your market. • Unprofessional design: the contents of your eBook could be of superb quality and yet fail to achieve success, if the software looks shoddy and unprofessional.
